We are the original Oxford House Books from Hay-on-Wye, Wales, and we've now moved to Pego, Spain. We will go on offering good quality second-hand, out-of-print and antiquarian books with an emphasis on the humanities. Spine darkened, cloth with some very minor marking/scuffing, endpapers split over hinges, boards holding firm, a few weakened joints, stitching good, no detachments; foxing chiefly confine to first and last leaves. Author inscription at fly-leaf: "The Rev.' S. Ashton Yates/with the author's kind regards/19 June 1890", the recipient's armorial bookplate at front paste-down endpaper. Also, two author a.l.s. to Yates and printed subscription information tipped-in following fly-leaf.

Two volumes, thick, large quarto, bevelled full morocco, gilt with gilt decorations including royal crest cornerpieces, inner gilt dentelles, marbled endpapers, vol: I, xiv + 215pp., vol. II, xii + 208pp., top edge gilt, remainder untrimmed, full-page portrait illustrations. Fairly minor rubbing and bumping at bindings, and with some small white splashes, nothing severe; edges quite browned/foxed, internal scattered foxing and smudging, chiefly marginal, text itself largely free from effects, images still sharp. Stamps of Whiteford House at intervals, so perhaps once briefly in the ownership of the Prince of Wales. (Whiteford House demolished in the same year as publication). All very sound. Extremely heavy, around 11 kilos packed properly. Please ask for shipping rate if outside Spain.
